Hunter Education Requirement
Licenses shall be issued to hunters only upon pre-sentation of one of the following: An annual California hunting license from a prior year or evidence of having held such a license; a two-day California nonresident hunting license issued after the 1999/2000 license year; a California hunter education completion or equivalency certificate; a certificate of competence or completion of a California approved hunter education training course from any state or province; or a current year hunting license from any state or province.

As of Jan. 1, 2008, hunters are no longer required to purchase a Hunter Safety Validation Stamp and affix it to their Hunter Education Certificate.
